Looking at the big picture

At HIOH, we acknowledge that human, animal and environmental health are tightly interconnected and must be considered as a holistic entity. Our mission is to explore this bigger picture by investigating fundamental mechanisms of disease emergence, transmission and antimicrobial resistance. In this way, we are contributing to more effective pandemic preparedness and prevention.

Research at HIOH

In line with the One Health approach, research at HIOH addresses the threat of emerging diseases as well as the evolution of known pathogens, including their antimicrobial resistances. Consequently, we focus on three main research areas: Ecology and Emergence of Zoonotic Diseases, Pathogen Evolution, and Epidemiology and Ecology of Antimicrobial Resistance.
