Report in GEO magazine: Virus hunt in tropical rainforests

Targeting zoonoses: The article “Virus hunt in the rainforest” provides a close-up view of HIOH's field research in the Central African Republic.

In February 2024, a team from GEO magazine accompanied researchers from the HIOH/HZI on their trip to the Central African Republic. The extensive and impressively illustrated report was published in August 2024. It showcases HIOH’s work in the Dzanga-Sangha protected areas, where we conduct long-term One Health Surveillance studies to track the transmission of pathogens from animals to humans. The following images are taken from the GEO article and offer unique insights into zoonosis research and the challenges of pandemic prevention.
