Dr Filipe Dias

About

Filipe Dias is a Portuguese veterinarian with a PhD in Educational Sciences. Since he was a student, his interest in the concept of One Health has guided his academic and professional pathway, combined with his passion for education. At the start of his career (2013-2018), he worked in small and exotic animal clinics and had the opportunity to work in Portugal, Mozambique and Ireland. From 2018 to 2023, he worked in Guinea-Bissau (West Africa) in the field of development cooperation, namely in the areas of education, human rights, child protection and community development. During his time in West Africa, he implemented community sensitization sessions, classes, and teachers training on the theme of One Health. He developed her PhD in the area of intercultural competences needed by veterinary students to work in a global context. In November 2023, he joined the One Health Surveillance (OHS) team at the Helmholtz Institute for One Health in Greifswald (Germany) where he divides his working time between Germany and countries in West and Central Africa. In his opinion, being part of the OHS team allows him to work with people from different professional, academic and cultural backgrounds, which is both an opportunity and a motivation to improve the safety and quality of life of the communities he works with.
