Dr Elias Eger

Dr. Elias Eger is a pharmacist and has been working in the Department of 'Epidemiology and Ecology of Antimicrobial Resistance' at the HIOH since June 2023. After successfully completing his pharmacy studies, he started his doctoral studies in the 'Pharmaceutical Microbiology' research group at the Institute of Pharmacy at the University of Greifswald under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Katharina Schaufler, PhD, in spring 2019. His doctoral thesis focused on the investigation of fitness and virulence traits of multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli and carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae as success markers for high-risk clones. From 2022 to 2023, Dr. Elias Eger worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Infection Medicine at the University Medical Centre Schleswig-Holstein and the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel. During this time, he worked on the establishment of a hospital surveillance system for multi-resistant Gram-negative pathogens.
Dr. Elias Eger is currently working on the BMBF-funded T!Raum project 'Colon decolonization of multidrug-resistant pathogens through the combined use of natural products, probiotics and vaccines' (MDR-DEKOL). He is also involved in the organization of other T!Raum projects (AgriBiom and CiFly). In addition, he is responsible for the general organization and automation of the laboratory and is the scientific contact for team members and external partners.
